Admission Requirements
Admission to the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education requires
- the student to be a registered nurse (R.N.);
- an earned bachelor’s degree. Those with an R.N. and B.S.N. are ready for admission into the M.S.N. program. Those who are currently an R.N. (in Tennessee or through a compact state) with a bachelor’s degree in any area and have a minimum of 3.00 grade point average (GPA) may qualify for this program through the bridge program. This bridge program requires that students take four assigned undergraduate courses and then bridge directly into the M.S.N. without having completed the B.S.N.
NOTE: No GRE is required.
Application Procedures
Students are advised to contact the graduate program director in the School of Nursing before beginning the application procedure.
Applicant must
- submit application with the appropriate application fee (online at www.mtsu.edu/graduate/apply/shtml);
- submit official copies of transcripts;
- submit three signed letters of recommendation;
- submit an updated vita or resume;
- submit a copy of RN license;
- submit background check information;
- submit proof of immunization;
- submit proof of payment of malpractice insurance.
NOTE: Applicants residing in Middle Tennessee (Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Coffee, Davidson, Dickson, Franklin, Giles, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Perry, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Stewart, Wayne, Williamson and Wilson county) are randomly assigned to one of the three TBR institutions in Middle Tennessee (APSU, MTSU, or TSU). Students who reside in one of these counties must first apply to the RODP program at www.rodp.org/admissions/admissions-steps. Students approved and assigned to MTSU will then apply to the MTSU College of Graduate Studies.
Program Notes
The School of Nursing also offers selected graduate courses which may be transferred to programs offering the Master of Science in Nursing. Other courses designed to assist individuals to meet the requirements of the State of Tennessee Board of Nursing for a Certificate of Fitness to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse are also available.
