The History Department offers the Master of Arts in History, Master of Arts in History with a concentration in Public History, and a Ph.D. in Public History as well as graduate certificates in Archival Management, Cultural Resources Management, Historic Preservation, and Museum Management.
The certificate of advanced study in Historic Preservation offers a unique opportunity for students to take relevant courses and conduct fieldwork under the supervision of the staff of the renowned Center for Historic Preservation. Students also work with the staff associated with the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area.
The certificate program seeks to provide an opportunity for students to pursue advanced study in Historic Preservation in addition to in-depth professional training for graduate students seeking employment in preservation organizations, historic sites, museums, and other historical organizations. The certificate in Historic Preservation also provides a transitional bridge to the Ph.D. program in Public History.
