The graduate certificate program in Dyslexic Studies is rooted in the research base that defines dyslexia and guides identification. It examines content and strategies for intervention.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Dyslexic Studies certificate program requires
- an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college;
- an acceptable grade point average in all college work taken;
- a certificate in some field integral to P-12 education;
- documentation of three or more years of successful experience in the career field;
- permission of the program advisor.
Application Procedures
All application materials are to be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
Applicant must
- meet the admission requirements of College of Graduate Studies;
- submit application with the appropriate application fee (online at www.mtsu.edu/graduate/apply.shtml);
- present a letter of recommendation from a principal or supervisor;
- submit official transcripts of all previous college work;
- submit a letter detailing professional experience, positions held, and motivation for studying dyslexia.
Certificate Requirements
Once admitted to the program, candidate must
- complete 18 hours of graduate courses (see Curriculum section below for specifics);
- maintain a cumulative graduate grade point average of 3.00 in courses leading to the certificate.
Curriculum: Dyslexic Studies
Candidate must complete 18 hours in the following course of study: Electives (6 hours)
The remaining six (6) hours are to be selected from the following courses in consultation with an advisor to match the career goals of students. Program Notes
Students may transfer up to six (6) credit hours of approved coursework into the certificate program. The time limit for use of credit toward the certificate is six years from the date of enrollment in the earliest course applied toward the certificate, including transferred courses.
Candidate must file a Notice of Intent to Graduate form in the College of Graduate Studies within the first two weeks of the semester in which candidate intends to graduate. |
