The School of Journalism and Strategic Media offers an accelerated, fully online Master of Science degree in Digital Media.

Completable in as little as a single calendar year, this Master’s program offers online, asynchronous courses designed to provide graduates with a broad range of digital media expertise, including social media best practices, digital data collection and analysis, search engine optimization, website creation and management, audience metrics, and mobile-optimized media, skills which are valuable in a growing number of fields. No thesis or capstone project is required. Finishing the program in a single calendar year will require completing between three and four courses per semester and up to three courses during the summer terms.

Students in public relations, advertising, journalism, and related fields, as well as professionals working in other disciplines that utilize digital media for workflow, promotion, and/or training will be interested in this program.

Admission


Admission to the Master of Science in Digital Media requires

  1. an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; and
  2. an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75.

NOTE: Students will be permitted to take up to six hours before being admitted to the program but will have to do so as non-degree seeking students. Enrollment in these hours will require the permission of the graduate director.

Application Procedures


All application materials are to be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.

Applicant must

  1. submit an application with the appropriate application fee (online at www.mtsu.edu/graduate/apply.php). Once this initial application has been accepted, the applicant will receive directions on how to enter the graduate portal to be able to submit other materials.
  2. submit official transcripts of all previous postsecondary academic work;
  3. submit a 500-word essay;
  4. submit names and contact information of three references.

Degree Requirements


The Master of Science in Digital Media requires completion of 30 semester hours.

The program requires completion of the following courses. A limited number of course substitutions can be made with the permission of the graduate director.
