The Department of Elementary and Special Education offers the Master of Education degree with a major in Special Education.

Admission Requirements


Admission to the M.Ed. in Special Education requires

  1. an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college;
  2. at least a 2.75 undergraduate GPA or 3.0 GPA in the most recent 60 credit hours for full admission or a 2.5 undergraduate GPA for conditional admission.
  3. a satisfactory score on the Praxis content area exam may be required if pursuing the job-embedded option.

Application Procedures


All application materials are to be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.

Applicant must

  1. submit an application with the appropriate application fee (online at www.mtsu.edu/graduate/apply.php). Once this initial application has been accepted, the applicant will receive directions on how to enter the graduate portal to be able to submit other materials.
  2. submit official transcripts of all previous college work.

Degree Requirements


The Master of Education in Special Education requires 30 semester hours.

Students take up to 3 credit hours with 1 credit hour per semester
