The major in Speech and Theatre is designed to provide students with maximum opportunities to develop theoretical and practical appreciation of all phases of human communication. For students following the Communication Studies concentration, preparation is offered for the pursuit of graduate study in a number of fields or for entry into communication work in business, industry, and government.

All students majoring in Speech and Theatre must complete COMM 2200  (Fundamentals of Communication).

Communication Studies Concentration


Courses focus on developing a wide range of skills to promote effective communication, analysis, adaptability. Classical foundations and current research are covered.

Students pursuing the Communication Studies concentration must also select at least one appropriate minor approved by the student’s academic advisor.

Recommended Curriculum: Speech and Theatre, Communication Studies


Curricular listings include General Education  requirements in Communication, History, Humanities and/or Fine Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social/Behavioral Sciences categories.

All students pursuing a major within this department must complete the General Education requirements. The following is a suggested pattern of study for the first two years; however, consultation with the assigned advisor is necessary before each registration.
