PA 6110 - Scientific Basis of Medicine I3 credit hours Prerequisite: Admission to the Physician Assistant Studies program. A thorough understanding of the scientific basis of medicine is required to diagnose and treat disease. As such, this course will encompass both integrative human physiology and the pathophysiology of disease. The complex interrelationships of function and dysfunction at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and systemic levels will be explored, as well as the genetic basis of disease. As the first in this series of courses, the focus will be on the scientific basis of cells and tissues, hematology, and malignancy, emphasizing homeostatic mechanisms, etiologies of diseases, and applicable treatments.
