ENGL 4540 - Approaches to Teaching ESL Grammar and Writing3 credit hours Prerequisites: Completion of 1000- and 2000-level English requirements with a grade of C- or better and ENGL 4510 with C- or better or equivalent. Background and basic methods needed to teach English grammar and composition to students for whom English is a second language. Emphasizes understanding of problems that non-native speakers face and develops techniques for helping non-native speakers express themselves in written English.
