The General Science concentration is a broad-based science degree requiring 19 semester hours acceptable for a minor in each of two fields selected from biology, chemistry, and physics plus 8 semester hours from the third field. Each student should work closely with his/her advisor in completing the program for the General Science concentration. A minimum of 9 semester hours of upper-division courses in the Science major must be taken at MTSU. The Science major requires only one minor which must include at least 3 semester hours at the upper-division level taken at MTSU.

Degree Requirements


General Education (41 hours)


General Education  requirements (shown in curricular listings below) include courses in Communication, History, Humanities and/or Fine Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social/Behavioral Sciences.

The following courses are required by the program and can satisfy the respective General Education requirement:

  • MATH 1730 (Math)
  • BIOL 1110/1111 (Nat Sci)
  • CHEM 1110/1111 (Nat Sci)

Major Requirements (46 hours)


Emphasis Areas (22 hours)


  • Selected from the designated areas of biology, chemistry, and physics; at least 9 credit hours must be 3000/4000 level courses.

Supporting Course (4 hours)


Minor (15-18 hours)


Electives


  • To make 120 hours; sufficient upper-division credit hours must be taken to equal 42 credit hours
