The major in Theatre is designed to provide students with maximum opportunities to develop theoretical and practical appreciation of theatre arts. Preparation is offered for the pursuit of graduate study in a number of fields or for entry into professions including secondary school teaching and professional theatre.

Students majoring in Theatre must receive a grade of C (2.00) or better in all courses in their major for the course to count as a prerequisite or to count toward graduation.

Students pursuing the B.S. degree must complete a cognate and one minor. The minor must not require any courses with a THEA prefix.

Students may select from the following two cognates:

Theatre (18 hours)


  • Select 18 hours from upper-division (3000 or 4000 level) courses in THEA in consultation with an advisor

Recommended Curriculum: Theatre


Curricular listings include General Education  requirements in Communication, History, Humanities and/or Fine Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social/Behavioral Sciences categories.

All students pursuing a major within this department must complete the General Education requirements. The following is a suggested pattern of study for the first two years; however, consultation with the assigned advisor is necessary before each registration.
