  • THEA 4560 - Acting III

    3 credit hours
    Prerequisite: THEA 3510  or permission of instructor. Audition technique. A practicum for selecting, preparing, and performing a variety of audition monologues. Develop skills in cold reading; prepare a professional resume; discuss headshots; and research the role of agents, casting directors, and unions in the casting process.

  • THEA 4580 - Acting IV

    3 credit hours
    Prerequisite: THEA 4560 or permission of instructor. Styles of acting. Study and practice of technique for performing in period, stylized, or non-realistic drama. Develop skills in verse and other heightened language texts with special emphasis on performing Shakespeare. Other styles may include, but are not limited to, the Greeks, Comedy of Manners, and Absurdism.

    A short-term international theatre experience designed to broaden international and cultural awareness and to promote international theatrical exchanges.     Selected major playwrights linked by theme or a particular genre of dramatic theory; an intensive examination of plays which either survey playwrights’ careers or represent a significant portion of a genre’s canon. May be repeated for credit once.

  • THEA 4950 - Directed Studies

    3 credit hours
    Prerequisites: Available only to students in Theatre and Dance who have completed 50 percent of the coursework in the Theatre concentration and have an overall GPA of 3.2 for their last 30 hours of study; permission of department required. Proposals must be submitted and approved by theatre and dance faculty the semester prior to the beginning of the semester of enrollment. Individualized intensive instruction for students to pursue research and creative activity in a specialized area with faculty mentorship.

  • THEA 4990 - Senior Seminar in Theatre

    1 credit hour
    Prerequisite: Theatre majors only; senior classification. A capstone to the Theatre major’s undergraduate career and preparation for transition to the professional theatre or graduate study. Includes lectures, workshops, professional guest speakers, and discussion sessions. Students will complete various paper-based projects including resume and portfolio construction.

    Explores various dimensions of the role tourism plays in community and regional development. Discusses the theories and practices regarding tourism supply and demand, economic impact, tourism structure and policy, environmental and social considerations, travel and tourism research. Specific attention given to sustainability of the community and industry and the examination of the dynamics between social or economic development and the quality of life for the residents.

    3 credit hours
    Required of Honors Transfer Fellows. Introduces students from a variety of disciplines to the research methods necessary for successful completion of the honors thesis proposal and the honors thesis. Specific objectives include choosing a research topic, understanding the thesis process, identifying an appropriate faculty mentor, and drafting a tentative thesis topic. Assignments may include writing reports, assembling annotated bibliographies, and giving oral reports using appropriate technology. Course will be team-taught occasionally to expose students to multidisciplinary approaches to research.

    Prerequisites: Permission of instructor; 3.0 cumulative GPA; must have completed 60 credit hours by start of course. An intensive learning experience in leadership excellence. Involves significantly more clock hours than the typical three-credit-hour course but offers a remarkably unique experience. The institute has three primary objectives: academic study of leadership theory and practice, with an emphasis on application; extensive exposure to accomplished leaders; and completion of a substantial student project, a part of which will be a personal action plan for leadership growth. Participants must be prepared to attend morning, afternoon, and evening sessions for one week during May term.

    Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. A variable-content course examining a topic within the study of women and gender not covered in depth in other Women’s and Gender Studies courses. Student develops project, conducts research, and confers regularly with the instructor. Student must submit a formal project proposal to be approved by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program’s Independent Studies Committee at least one semester prior to enrolling for WGST 4900.     Prerequisites: MSE 1010  and MSE 2010 . Focuses on issues of what it means to learn and know science and mathematics. Included are topics related to standards of knowing and understanding powerful ideas in mathematics and science, links between knowing and developing in learning theory, and the content and evolution of scientific ideas. Students required to conduct interviews with public school practitioners.

    Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education program; successful completion of YOED 2500 , YOED 3000 , YOED 3300  with a grade of B or better; overall grade point average maintained at a minimum of 2.75; grade point average in the major at a minimum of 2.50; and senior standing. A school-based clinical experience in a problem-based learning format in art, drama, music, or physical education.

    NOTE: All students must obtain a grade of B or better in this course to move forward to Residency II.

  • VFP 1060 - Basic Video Production

    3 credit hours
    Focuses on the basics of creating videos by shooting good video, recording good audio, editing raw footage into a coherent story or presentation, and sharing finished videos. Exposes students to camera, lighting, composition, sound, graphics, perspective, movement, and other tools of the motion picture language. Students must provide their own video cameras (smartphones acceptable), computers for editing videos, video editing software (iMovie, Windows Movie maker, or better), and lavalier microphones that work with the cameras.

    3 credit hours
    Explores non-linear editing techniques and practices, as well as the history and theory of film/video editing. Topics include post-production workflow, video formats and compression, narrative and documentary storytelling, exporting, sound design, color correction, multicam editing, and motion graphics.     (Same as AERO 3745 .) Designed to give students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills using multirotor platforms designed for professional aerial videography and industrial applications. Students will construct and gain experience on a small UAS before transitioning to “prosumer” UAS. Focuses on UAS operations, regulations, legal and ethical issues, and various aspects of aerial videography. Flight operations training will be conducted off-campus.

  • VFP 4941 - Advanced Multi-camera Video Production

    1 to 4 credit hours


    Prerequisite: Admission to candidacy and VFP 3140  or permission of instructor.

    Practical experience in the conceptualization, pre-production preparation, and production of live television productions such as sports, musical performances, special events, or news. Topics will vary by section offering. Can be repeated for up to 9 credit hours with each section offering varying composition of projects.

    Three-hour lecture/lab plus a varying number of production shoots outside of regularly scheduled class time.

    Prerequisites: JOUR 2710 , VCOM 2010 , and VCOM 2950  or permission of instructor. Design process and production methods for communicating concepts, information, and narratives through the use of visual elements in print, Web, and digital media. Develops skill sets of typographic language and design, photography selection and use, illustration techniques and intermediate layout design for the purpose of visual storytelling in the form of such projects as editorial layout in digital and print formats, ad campaigns, and logo design.
